| Well, since everyone is talking about track cars, let me update everyone on my latest Z project. My good friend Lee D’s Z had been sitting dead in my driveway for a couple of years with a blown motor. I finally bought it from him and decided to put a dedicated track Z together with whatever spare parts that I already had or that my friends would “loan” me in exchange for letting them also drive the Z on the track – our community Z track car. We all became friends because of the Z32, but most of them have moved on to other cars, but they still have a soft spot for the Z. My original Z, that I still have and plan to keep forever has reached a point similar to where Scott has reached – so it has not seen a track for years. I had built a 240SX with an SR for a track car, but that too had come to the point of being too nice to lose on the track. So this new Z32 track car will never become a show queen and if I ball it up, I will be sad, but not upset. In fact, I don’t think I will even remove the very large dent in the driver’s side rocker panel. This Z won’t have the best or latest parts, as it is not intended to be the fastest baddest Z on the track. If I have to buy parts, I will buy something nice, but won’t break the bank doing so. So here is what is done so far. Totally rebuilt stock motor with the addition of forged pistons and rods as the old ones were shot anyways. 555 injectors because they were already in the Z, although it would have been nice to put in a set of 740’s. MS manifolds with JWT 700BB turbos with the old style SZ split downpipes with full 3” test pipes and my buddy’s old 3” B&B exhaust. I was originally just going to get some straight pipes after the X pipe, but the 3” B&B was offered for a trade for the original 2.5” B&B that came on the Z. I will be using my old 17 x 9.5 CCW racing wheels that I have let Scott run for the last few years. I plan on running only 275 race rubber – no more street tires for this trailered Z. Trying to get a set SPL coilovers in the latest groupbuy. Brakes will be AP 6 pistons as I had an extra set of calipers sitting around and a lifetime supply of rotors and Hawk Blue pads left over from my adventures in the now defunct “Open Track Challenge” from many years ago. I am keeping an eye open in the classifieds for used intercoolers and other suspensions pieces. The interior will be gutted and an old autopower rollbar will be installed. Probably later a full cage will get built, but that will be much later. Need to figure out what seat to use as I need a very low seat in there. Also planning eventually have aero enhancements on this Z. The Z is now running and hopefully will get on the track in 2009. Updates as they come and yes no pics this time.
